Job description

Position Title: Lifeguard

Corps/Department: Salvation Army, King's Lake Camp

Reports To: Rental and Operations Manager

FLSA Status: Temporary, Part-time; Non-Exempt

Dates of Employment: June 4, 2025 - July 30, 2025

Scope of Position:

Provide a complete waterfront program that contributes to the fulfillment of the goals and objectives of King's Lake Camp, including swimming and waterfront safety, while maintaining a safe program area.

Minimum Qualifications:
  1. Must pass all background checks required by The Salvation Army.
  2. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  3. Provide proof of current Lifeguard Training Certification, including First Aid, CPR, AED, and Waterfront Skills certification.
  4. Prior Lifeguard experience preferred.
  5. Demonstrated ability to work with young people ages 7 years and older.
  6. Must perform duties efficiently and demonstrate good judgment.
Essential Functions:
  1. Organize and monitor all waterfront activities (lake, no pool).
  2. Implement a strict waterfront program following Red Cross and Alaska state requirements.
  3. Maintain canoes and paddleboats for proper operation.
  4. Supervise campers and staff during swim and boating activities.
  5. Test and classify swimming abilities; require life vests as needed.
  6. Utilize staff abilities effectively and instruct waterfront duty counselors.
  7. Enforce waterfront rules and camper discipline.
  8. Ensure all areas are clean and in order before each swim session.
  9. Know and be prepared to execute emergency procedures.
  10. Follow King's Lake Camp Rules.
  11. Ensure respect for personal property, equipment, and facilities.
  12. Assist with other duties as assigned.
Additional Requirements:

Complete online training for this area and pass background checks as required by The Salvation Army.

Work Environment:

Outdoor work in varying weather conditions, including wet weather.

Physical Demands:
  1. Ability to speak, sit, walk, stand, bend, climb, kneel, twist, grasp, reach, handle, finger, push, or pull objects.
  2. Normal vision and hearing, with or without correction.
  3. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. or more with assistance.
