Job summary

City of Westfield, Indiana is seeking a seasonal Public Works Laborer for a roughly 12-week winter stint (Nov–Jan). The job involves operating trucks/backhoe, mowing, trash pickup, repairs, and assisting with traffic control at construction sites.

Work is performed under supervision, with standard hours 7:30 am–4:30 pm, plus on-call duties for after-hours emergencies. Qualified applicants will have a high school diploma or GED and a valid Indiana CDL (or ability to obtain).

Job description

General Definition of Work

This is a seasonal position lasting approximately 12 weeks (for Winter, preferably November-January). The role performs intermediate semiskilled work assisting with public works installation, maintenance, and repair projects. Duties include operating equipment, performing a variety of manual labor tasks, and completing related assignments as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the moderate supervision of the Street Superintendent and Foreman.

Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 am. to 4:30 pm., with a one-hour lunch break. This position may require occasional work during odd hours and weekends, as needed. Additionally, the employee is required to be on-call for after-hours emergencies.

Education And Experience

High school diploma or GED, or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Requirements
