POSITION INFORMATION

Seasonal Recreation Facilities Repairer

Blackstone River & Canal Heritage State Park
Duration: 06/1/25-11/1/25 (23 weeks @ 40hrs.)

About the Department of Conservation and Recreation:
The Department manages one of the largest and most diverse state park systems in the nation, overseeing over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, and recreational facilities. We are seeking qualified applicants for the position of Seasonal Recreation Facilities Repairer.

A cover letter and resume expressing your interest must be attached specifically to the requisition for which you are applying.

DUTIES:
  1. Inspect recreation facilities to identify repair needs and perform maintenance and repairs, including painting, mowing, brush trimming, tree removal, and building and equipment maintenance.
  2. Review blueprints, plans, schematics, and technical manuals for maintenance purposes.
  3. Operate hand tools, power tools, generators, tractors, and related equipment for repairs and maintenance of trails, fire lanes, gates, fencing, buildings, and fire towers.
  4. Procure supplies needed for maintenance and repair work.
  5. Perform related duties as assigned.
Skills and Abilities:
  • Knowledge and skill in using measurement devices like calipers, levels, rulers, and gauges.
  • Proficiency with hand-held power tools such as drills and chainsaws, and hand tools like hammers and wrenches.
  • Ability to read, write, and comprehend English; interpret plans, blueprints, and technical documents.
  • Ability to give clear oral instructions and establish harmonious working relationships.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, work at heights exceeding 40 feet, and endure physical stamina and manual dexterity.
  • Sound judgment and ability to follow instructions.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with electrical systems and maintenance, with willingness to be trained as needed.
Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Either:

  • One year of full-time experience in maintenance, repair, or installation of heating, electrical, plumbing systems, or equipment like pools or ice rinks.
  • Or an equivalent combination of experience and relevant technical certifications from recognized institutes.

Special Requirements: Possession of a valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator's License may be required based on assignment.
