The City of High Point is currently seeking a Pool Attendant that will perform general operations work at the swimming facility at High Point City Lake Park or Washington Terrace Park. Pool attendants are responsible for providing customer service, greeting customers, admitting pool patrons into the facility, and waiting on pool patrons at the concession window; does related work as required. Work is performed under the supervision of the Pool Manager.

Responsibilities

• Greets pool patrons and informs them of policies, fees, and activities;
• Sells tickets, armbands, and other admission materials;
• Answers telephone and responds to inquiries;
• Dispenses minor First Aid supplies such as band-aids;
• Records swimming lesson registrations and receipts;
• Assists in operation of concession area, sells packaged products, and soft drinks;
• Assists in preparation of revenue deposits for the concession stand and pool;
• Assists in daily cleanup of ticket area, concession stand, and picnic area;
• Assists in locker room clean-up and maintenance;
• Accepts deliveries, assists with inventories and restocking of pool and concession supplies;
• Prepares daily reports using software system;
• Reports incidents, accidents, and concerns to Pool Manager;
• Assists in waterslide operation, including supervising users;
• Ensures that all work is performed in accordance with OSHA and City Safety Standards and Policies.

Qualifications

• Formal Education, which includes basic arithmetic.
• Must have strong communication skills, customer service skills, and be able to work with people of all ages, individually and in groups.
• Must be able to work most weekends, evenings, and holidays.
• Must be 16 years of age; 18 years of age to operate the waterslide.

Physical Requirements

Hearing/Speaking - Expressing and/or receiving information by means of spoken word are necessary to converse with program participants, facility patrons, and coworkers. Visual Abilities – the ability to perceive via eyesight is required for this position:

• Acuity, far – clarity of vision at 20 feet or more. Must be able to see customers in and around concession booth, pool deck, First Aid room and waterslide. Both eyes 20/25 – R 20/30 – L 20/30 corrected.
• Acuity, near – clarity of vision at 20 inches or less. Must be able to see tickets, food items, cash register, dispensing machines and other work aids close at hand. Both eyes 20/22 corrected.
• Depth perception – Three-dimensional vision and the ability to judge distance and space relationships so as to see objects where and as they actually are.
• Field of Vision – the area that can be seen up and down or to the right or left while eyes are focused on one point. Must be able to see wide span to cover pool deck area and customers entering and leaving area.
• Accommodation – Must be able to adjust the eye lens to glance quickly. This item is especially important when doing near-point work at varying distances from eye.

Physical Strength – degree of physical demands typically associated with this position include:

• Medium to Heavy Work.
• Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally; and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to handle or move materials related to the position.
• Work requires walking, standing, stooping, bending, lifting, stretching, pushing, and pulling, although worker does sit on occasions. There is significant use of arms, hands, feet, and legs.

Mental Activity/Requirements

• Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to work tasks and practical situations and requests made by supervisor or members of the general public; to comprehend and respond to a variety of situations in an expedient manner; to understand and communicate with individuals of varying ages. Good judgement is important because the individual will interact directly with the public on a constant basis and may be working in the absence of a supervisor.

• Using arithmetic and/or Statistics: Ability to use arithmetic to add and figure number of program participants and attendants, count money and make change, figure daily revenue collections, and make various reports.

• The ability to speak, read and write the English Language are required for this position. Ability to be conversant in voice and diction to participate in discussions in person and by telephone.

Environmental Conditions

• The Pool Attendant employee is subject to Outside Environmental Conditions: Exposed to the various weather conditions and temperatures. Combining the type of work performed with the various weather conditions, the worker should be one who can work outside in a hot environment.

• The Pool Attendant employee will be exposed to working outside in a range of weather conditions and occasionally around controlled burning operations. Employee will be exposed to trash, garbage, and water chemicals. Work is subject to final standards of OSHA on bloodborne pathogens.

• Items which may be representative, but not all inclusive, of those commonly associated with this type of work: Popcorn machine, cotton candy machine, nacho cheese dispenser, drink fountain, cash register, typewriter, calculator, mop broom, waterslide mats, First Aid supplies, snap arm bands, scissors, telephone, receipt books, push button horn, P.A. systems, hoses and water control valves, whistles, plastic tokens, coin-operated lockers and office supplies.
