Job Description: Cemetery Maintenance Worker

Performs field work related to cemetery maintenance. May assist the Parks Maintenance Division with recreational activities and special events.

The following duties are typical for this position. These are not to be construed as exclusive or all-inclusive. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to demonstrate competence and satisfactory performance of these duties. Other duties may be required and assigned.

  1. Assists grounds crews with maintenance, landscaping, and repairs of cemetery grounds, headstones, and cemetery roadways, including mowing, weed eating, repairing or replacing signage, installing flags and banners, tree trimming, and debris removal (including faded flowers and decorations).
  2. Operates hand tools, weed eaters, mowers, and other equipment used for division tasks.
  3. Maintains all equipment, vehicles, and tools in proper, safe, and clean working condition.
  4. Performs duties in a safe manner, complying with policies, procedures, work and safety rules, and the employee handbook.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of the uses and purposes of general construction tools and equipment.
  • Skill in the use of hand tools, machines, and other equipment used for division purposes.
  • Ability to learn various construction and maintenance processes and equipment.
  • Ability to perform heavy physical labor.
  • Ability to understand and follow simple oral and/or written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Ability to maintain consistent attendance.

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • High school diploma/GED or current enrollment.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Driving record sufficient for coverage by the city's auto liability insurer.
