Job summary

City of Colorado Springs is seeking a Seasonal Parks Maintenance Worker SIMD to support maintenance of medians, rights-of-way, and parks across Briargate, Norwood, or Stetson Hills. Expect early morning shifts, weekends/holidays possible, May through September with up to 1,500 hours/year.

You will operate trucks, mowers, and irrigation equipment, perform routine upkeep, and ensure safety in outdoor environments in all weather conditions.

Qualifications

• Experience operating landscape equipment and hand tools safely.
• Landscape or facilities maintenance experience required.
• Valid Colorado driver's license or ability to obtain one after hire.

Responsibilities

• Mow, trim, weed, aerate, seed, top dress, edge, and rake parks and medians.
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems and related components.
• Pick up trash and assist with general grounds maintenance.

About this Job:

In this position, you will assist with the maintenance of medians, rights-of-way, and parks for either Briargate, Norwood, or Stetson Hills SIMD.

Work Schedule:

Normal hours worked will be Monday through Thursday 6:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and Friday 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. Schedule may include some weekends and holidays.

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association).

Approximate dates of employment will be May through September. Scheduled hours will vary based on department needs. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.

As a Parks Maintenance Worker - SIMD, you will:

• Mow, trim, weed, aerate, seed, top dress, edge, and rake
• Maintain and repair irrigation systems
• Pick up trash

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

• Ability to safely operate vehicles and equipment such as trucks, trailers, riding and push mowers, and tractors
• Ability to safely operate hand tools
• Have landscape or facility maintenance experience
• Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary Colorado driver's license not subject to restrictions.
• Experience working with irrigation systems
• Specialized training in landscaping or grounds maintenance

Physical Demands:

The ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to 60 pounds occasionally is also required.

Environmental Conditions:

This position requires working outside in all weather conditions and along high traffic areas.
