Job summary

City of Colorado Springs is seeking a Parks Maintenance Worker for urban parks on a seasonal basis. You will perform a range of tasks from field preparation to general park upkeep, taking pride in a clean, welcoming environment.

The role requires outdoor work in various weather, ability to operate generic maintenance equipment, and adherence to safety and municipal guidelines.

Qualifications

• Six months of irrigation experience.
• Experience in maintenance environments.
• Valid driver’s license with no probationary restrictions.
• Ability to operate equipment safely including trimmers, edgers, blower(s).

Responsibilities

• Maintain park facilities by removing litter and debris and keeping areas clean.
• Assist with baseball field prep, drag/line infields, and set up sports fields.
• Support landscape maintenance, irrigation troubleshooting, and turf care.
• Keep irrigation systems running efficiently through maintenance and repair.
• Refresh paint and maintain park amenities.
• Perform landscape and athletic field maintenance tasks.
• Provide essential customer service, including restroom cleaning and stocking supplies.

Parks Maintenance Worker - Urban Parks - (Seasonal Position)

About the Job: In this position, you will perform a variety of maintenance tasks in parks and athletic areas.

Job Type:Seasonal

Work Schedule:Normal work hours will be from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Monday through Friday (weekends will be required for special events, such as tournaments).

Work Location:Multiple locations in Colorado Springs, CO

This is a seasonal (at-will) position with benefits limited to those required by applicable state and federal laws, which include Worker's Compensation, Medicare, Unemployment Insurance, and PERA (Public Employees' Retirement Association). The anticipated season is six months long. Total hours worked will not exceed 1,500 annually.

As a Parks Maintenance Worker, you will:

• Play a key role in creating a welcoming and clean park environment by providing top-notch customer service, ensuring facilities are well-stocked, and keeping public spaces free of litter and debris.
• Support exciting community and youth recreation programs by assisting with baseball field preparation, including dragging and lining infields, as well as helping set up sports fields for play.
• Work alongside experienced Park staff to enhance and maintain beautiful landscapes, gaining hands-on experience in irrigation troubleshooting, turfgrass care, and facility upkeep.
• Help keep irrigation systems running efficiently through maintenance and repair, contributing to lush, green parks for all to enjoy.
• Take pride in keeping park facilities in top condition by maintaining cleanliness, refreshing paint, and ensuring amenities are well-kept.
• Get involved in a variety of landscape and athletic field maintenance tasks, making a direct impact on the park’s appearance and functionality.
• Perform essential and foundational customer service related activities, including litter and trash removal, as well as restroom cleaning and stocking

We are looking for candidates who demonstrate:

• Ability to safely operate equipment such as trimmers, edgers, backpack blowers, walk-behind rototillers, and seeders
• Ability to safely operate hand and power tools
• Ability to safely operate assigned vehicles such as trucks and tractor

• Experience working in maintenance environments
• Six months of experience in irrigation

• Possess, or obtain upon hire, and maintain a valid, non-probationary driver’s license not subject to restrictions.

Physical Demands:This position requires the ability to work outside in all weather conditions and along high traffic areas. It also requires the ability to stand, sit, stoop, walk, climb, bend, and lift up to75 pounds frequently.
