Job Title: Seasonal Parks & Facilities Laborer
RANGE: N/A - Seasonal

$23.10 per hour

Purpose of Position

This position involves performing various tasks related to the maintenance and improvement of City facilities, grounds, parks, and greenways, as well as supporting community events. Bilingual in Spanish is encouraged; fluency in English is mandatory.

Essential Job Functions
  • Perform sanitation at parks, facilities, grounds, and natural areas, including litter pickup, trash disposal, and restroom cleaning. (30%)
  • Assist with planting, cultivating, and maintaining lawns, trees, shrubs, and flowers, including fertilizing, watering, mowing, trimming, and pruning. (25%)
  • Clean, power-wash, paint, and remove graffiti from park structures and amenities. (15%)
  • Maintain bike/pedestrian paths and trails, including construction and upkeep of natural and improved trails. (15%)
  • Assemble, inspect, and maintain playground equipment, benches, tables, and other park amenities. (10%)
  • Operate City vehicles with a valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
  • Follow safety policies and maintain safe work habits.
  • Maintain regular attendance and adhere to work hours.
  • Develop positive relationships with supervisors, colleagues, and the public.
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
Auxiliary Functions (5%)
  • Perform routine maintenance on equipment.
  • Handle fertilizers and chemicals safely.
  • Transport and set up furniture and equipment for events, including weekends and outside regular hours.
  • Maintain records of activities.
  • Assist other departments as needed.
  • Keep work areas clean and safe.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Knowledge of safe work practices, tool handling, and basic applications and technology. Ability to operate vehicles and tools safely, follow instructions, learn new skills, and work both independently and in teams. Education: High school diploma or equivalent. Experience in landscaping and grounds maintenance is preferred.

Licenses and Requirements
  • Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
  • Fluent in English reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension.
Physical and Mental Demands

Physical activity includes lifting up to 50 pounds, manual labor in all weather, and operating tools and equipment. Mental demands involve problem-solving, communication, and multitasking.

Working Conditions

Mostly outdoor work in various weather conditions and terrains.

Supervision

No supervisory responsibilities. Works under the supervision of the Parks and Facilities Superintendent or designee.
