Job summary

YMCA Camp Duncan is hiring Outdoor Education Instructors for Spring 2026. The instructor assists the Program Director in delivering outdoor environmental education and group services, creating a safe and engaging environment for participants.

Responsibilities include supervising participants, preparing lesson plans, teaching classes, and supporting group rentals. Flexible hours, including evenings and weekends, are required; commitment to a single season and 40+ hours per week is expected.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age or older.
• Ability to work effectively with children in a camp setting.
• Experience leading outdoor activities (canoeing, rock climbing, or team building) preferred.
• Excellent verbal communication and teamwork.
• Commitment to YMCA mission and diversity.
• Must be able to work 40+ hours per week, including nights and weekends.

Responsibilities

• Create a safe, supportive, interactive and engaging environment for program participants.
• Provide effective supervision of participants that is age-appropriate and safety compliant.
• Positively interact with participants and staff to foster a respectful, warm environment.
• Serve as a positive role model for participants and peers.
• Prepare daily/weekly lesson plans and ensure materials are ready for activities.
• Teach outdoor education classes and host group rentals, including campfire or evening programs.
• Assist in hosting group rentals and participate in all mandatory trainings and events.
• Support other departments as needed.
