About Spring Mill State Park:
Spring Mill State Park is a 1,300-acre area that links the natural and cultural worlds. The water flowing from several cave springs led to the founding of an industrial village in the early 1800s. Pioneers took advantage of a constant water source that never froze and used it to power several gristmills, a wool mill, a sawmill, and a distillery. The park contains a pioneer village, nature center, and the Gus Grissom Memorial to commemorate Astronaut Gus Grissom who was born in Mitchell in 1926.
