State of Montana is seeking a wildlife research professional to develop and execute mule deer protocols in field settings. You will work with biologists and technicians to locate deer, capture them using Clover traps, and collect measurements, fecal samples, and collar data for space use and survival studies.

Responsibilities include data entry across multiple platforms, reporting progress to collaborators, and communicating goals to cooperators and the public, with potential regional project

Formación

• Two years toward a relevant bachelor’s degree is required or preferred.
• Related work experience is preferred. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Responsabilidades

• Develop and execute protocols related to mule deer research.
• Become familiar with study areas, including landowner relationships and access.
• Locate mule deer through scouting and telemetry to identify capture locations.
• Capture and handle mule deer in winter/summer; use Clover traps and other methods.
• Collect biological measurements and samples; fit tracking collars for monitoring.
• Perform field necropsies when needed; collect fecal samples for diet studies.
• Enter and manage data across software platforms; summarize progress for collaborators.
• Communicate study goals and techniques to cooperators and the public.

Educación

Two years towards a bachelor’s degree in wildlife biology, animal ecology, biology, or a closely related field
