Job summary

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking a Seasonal OPS Biological Scientist I to support manatee research and field necropsy activities in Tequesta, FL. The role involves hotline response, carcass handling, rescue operations, and data management using Excel, Access, and ArcGIS.

Applicants should have 4 years of relevant experience or a biological sciences degree that substitutes for experience, and must be physically capable of fieldwork, lifting, swimming, and driving as

Qualifications

• 4 years professional experience in a closely-related biological field or laboratory program is required.
• A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in one of the biological sciences can substitute for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Fielding FWC hotline calls regarding marine mammals, particularly manatees.
• Verification of distressed manatees potentially in need of rescue.
• Responding to and recovering manatee carcasses for the Southeast Field Lab (SEFL).
• Occasional transportation of manatee carcasses to the necropsy facility in St. Petersburg.
• Assist in manatee rescue and transport operations to the appropriate rehabilitation facility.
• Operate a computer and software such as Excel, Access, and Word.
