Job summary

Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission is seeking an OPS Fish and Wildlife Technician to assist with field surveys and data collection on freshwater fish habitats. You will operate boats, document survey results, and work with the public in a marine setting during winter-to-spring shifts.

The position runs December through May and requires 18+ years old, a Florida driver’s license, and boater safety card, with training provided as needed.

Qualifications

• A high school diploma and two years of post-high school experience in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction is required.
• Associate’s degree in wildlife, fisheries, environmental, ecological or related agriculture or construction may substitute on a year-for-year basis for the required experience.

Responsibilities

• Interviews anglers on Rodman Reservoir, asking questions about catch and harvest of freshwater fish species.
• Record detailed survey data accurately while operating a boat independently and safely.
• Operate FWC equipment (trucks, trailers, and motorboats) for FWC business in a safe and lawful manner.
• Surveys conducted in all weather, including hot, cold, windy, and rainy conditions when safe.
