Job summary

The City of Green Bay is seeking a dedicated individual for grounds and trail maintenance, focusing on vegetation management and wildlife. Job description

Responsible for grounds and trail maintenance, vegetation and wildlife management, building cleaning, and exhibit construction.

  • Performs vegetation management and forestry work including mulching, mowing, burning, watering, pruning, staking, and fence and week trees, shrubs, vines, and flowers. Performs storm damage clean up and release work. Controls invasive species including purple loosestrife, burdock, buckthorn, nettle, box elder, and night shade.
  • Maintains the nature trails by laying wood chips, mowing, and replacing boardwalks, bridges, and trail signage.
  • Performs wildlife management including banding and monitoring geese, checking and maintaining lagoon oxygen levels, purple martin colony, building bird nest boxes.
  • Constructs and maintains indoor and outdoor animal exhibits. Maintains and replaces fences.
  • Performs general maintenance including picking up litter and garbage, cleaning buildings, and painting.
  • Follows all policies, procedures, and the philosophy that is set forth by the City of Green Bay Parks, Recreation, & Forestry Department.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Experience, training, or schooling in botany, horticulture, or wildlife desirable.
  • Valid Wisconsin driver's license and good driving record
A combination of equivalent experience and/or education may be considered.
  • Knowledge of botany, horticulture, and wildlife practices.
  • Skill and ability in safely operating vehicles and equipment.
  • Ability to work within a group setting. Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing. Ability to work effectively as part of a team and maintain effective working relationships. Ability to work the required hours of the position.

Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform the following activities:
  • Lifting and carrying up to 30 pounds.
  • Frequent walking, standing, bending, twisting, squatting, crouching, and kneeling.
  • Occasional sitting, climbing, pushing, and pulling.
  • Ability to work in varied environmental conditions.
