Job summary

Brooklyn Botanic Garden is seeking a Seasonal Lightscape Venue Manager to assist the Public Programs team with day-to-day site operations for the annual winter Lightscape trail. The role connects the event with the venue, overseeing load-in, tech setup, and coordination with security, custodial, visitor services, maintenance, retail, and F&B.

The role requires managing evening operations, working 40 hours/week over 11 weeks, including nights, weekends, and holidays, at $42/hour.

Responsibilities

• Oversee load-in and tech set-up; act as lead liaison between load-in, tech crew, and BBG operations.
• Coordinate daytime Garden operations with evening Lightscape operations with Security, Custodial, Visitor Services, Maintenance, retail and F&B.
• Work with Lightscape event manager and production manager to ensure route is in good condition and address needs during the event.
• Coordinate needs for ancillary events (Friends and Family, Press Opening, Family Benefit Night, 21+ Night, Sensory Friendly Entry).
• Attend daily event briefings and assist with front-of-house operations as needed.
• Respond to public needs during the run of the event and produce end-of-day reports.
• Ensure the Garden is returned to daily operations setup each night.
• Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.

Position Title: Seasonal Lightscape VenueManager

Department: Public Programs

Reports to: Director of Public Programs

FLSA Status: Seasonal, Non-exempt

Hours: 11 weeks; 40 hours per week, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Compensation: $42 per hour

Schedule: Onboarding: Week of October 26, 2026 Load-in: November 2–19, 2026; event dates: November 19, 2026–January 3, 2027, load-out: January 4 – January 12, 2027

Position Description:

Brooklyn Botanic Garden’s (BBG’s) Lightscape venue manager will assist the Public Programs department in overseeing day-to-day operations and site management during our annual winter spectacular. Lightscape is a one-mile trail throughout the Garden that is set with light and sound installations. This lead position will ensure that the event is in line with the requirements of the venue and is the link between the event and the venue.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with overseeing load-in and tech set-up. Act as lead liaison between load-in and tech crew and BBG operations team.
• Serve as liaison between regular daytime Garden operations and evening Lightscape operations, in coordination with Security, Custodial, Visitor Services, Maintenance, retail, and food & beverage services.
• Work alongside Lightscape event manager and production manager to ensure route is in good condition and address any needs that arise prior to and during event.
• Work alongside Lightscape event manager on coordinating needs for ancillary events (Friends and Family, Press Opening, Family Benefit Night, 21+ Night, Sensory Friendly Entry)
• Attend daily event briefings.
• Assist with front-of-house operations as needed.
• Respond to public needs as seen fit during the run of the event.
• Produce end-of-day reports to relay needs for the following day.
• Ensure the Garden is returned to daily operations setup at the end of the night.
• Perform other related duties or special projects as directed.

Qualifications:

• Production or event management experience
• Ability to work gracefully under pressure and remain levelheaded while handling a variety of responsibilities
• Comfort communicating with the public, BBG members, vendors, production staff, and volunteers
• Logistical thinker with knowledge of working in outdoor venues or natural settings a plus
• Superior organizational, technical, analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills (written and verbal)
• Self-motivated and resourceful, with ability to work independently as well as collaboratively
• Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays
