Seasonal Laborer II

Lake Wyola State Park

05/4/25-09/20/25 (20 weeks @ 40Hrs) 2 Openings

About the Department of Conservation and Recreation:

The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state park systems in the nation, protecting natural resources and outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails, golf courses, and parkways.

DUTIES:
  1. Cleans and maintains public areas such as restrooms, campgrounds, parking lots, trails, beaches, etc.
  2. Performs manual labor tasks, which may require some specialized skills.
  3. Installs, repairs, and maintains signs, including regulatory, historic, and informational signs, using hand or power tools.
  4. Plants, transplants, prunes, trims, and fertilizes trees, flowers, and shrubs; seeds lawns and gardens; sprays for insects and plant diseases; and performs tasks like mowing, raking leaves, and watering for grounds upkeep.
  5. Loads and unloads trucks, unpacks supplies, and takes inventory of supplies and equipment.
  6. Performs preventative maintenance on equipment and tools, including washing, inspecting, lubricating, and sharpening.
  7. Repairs and paints structures, sets up traffic control devices, moves equipment, and removes trash.
  8. Operates hand-held power tools, tapping machines, and rodding machines.
  9. Installs attachments on tractors and trucks for tasks like grass cutting and snow removal.
  10. Operates motor vehicles such as light trucks for unit activities.
  11. Operates camp registration offices, issues tickets, and maintains records.
  12. Performs related duties as required.

Minimum Entrance Requirements:

Applicants must have at least six months of full-time, or equivalent part-time, manual labor experience related to construction or maintenance work.
