Position Information:

Location: CT River Greenway State Park, Northampton

Start Date: ASAP

End Date: 9/13/25

About the Department of Conservation and Recreation:

The Department of Conservation and Recreation manages one of the largest and most diverse state park systems in the nation, protecting natural resources and providing outdoor recreational opportunities throughout Massachusetts. The DCR system includes over 450,000 acres of parks, forests, water supply protection lands, beaches, lakes, ponds, playgrounds, swimming pools, skating rinks, trails, and parkways.

The Department seeks applicants for the position of Seasonal Laborer II to perform duties including:

• Performing manual labor tasks to assist skilled tradesmen such as carpenters, plumbers, and masons.
• Installing drainage, sewer, and water pipelines, including positioning, joining, and sealing pipe sections and culverts.
• Diging trenches, refilling excavations, and leveling materials using hand tools.
• Setting and repairing curbing, patching pavement, and maintaining roadways and sidewalks.
• Installing and maintaining signs using hand or power tools.
• Maintaining public grounds by planting, pruning, fertilizing, seeding, spraying for pests, and performing general groundskeeping tasks.
• Loading/unloading trucks and managing supplies and inventory.
• Operating hand-held power tools, tapping, and rodding machines.
• Driving motor vehicles including light trucks and equipment.
• Performing related duties as required.

Note: If selected for a position working less than 90 days, it will revert to a short-term position. Salary details for short-term roles will be discussed during the interview.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: At least six months of full-time or equivalent part-time manual labor experience in construction or maintenance work.
