Description

Job Type: Seasonal Full-time (40 hours)

Schedule: Monday - Friday, 7:00 AM - 4:00 PM

Location: Elk River

We are seeking a reliable and safety-conscious Cylinder / Laborer to join our team. The individual will be responsible for safely filling gas cylinders, handling compressed gases, and performing general labor duties in the plant or warehouse. This role requires attention to detail, adherence to safety protocols, and the ability to work in a physically demanding environment. Other duties may be assigned.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Accurately count and verify all incoming cylinders.
  2. Load and unload gas cylinders from trucks using proper lifting techniques and equipment.
  3. Assist in the distribution and delivery of gas cylinders, ensuring accurate order fulfillment and timely dispatch to customers or designated locations.
  4. Inspect returned cylinders for surface defects such as dents, cracks, burns, or other damage; transport defective cylinders to designated areas.
  5. Identify, segregate, and quarantine cylinders that are defective, non-compliant, or fail inspection.
  6. Remove outdated or incorrect labels and clean cylinders using approved cleaning agents.
  7. Ensure all cylinder labels are legible, compliant with federal regulations, and match the intended service; replace labels when necessary.
  8. Fill cylinders in accordance with company procedures and regulatory guidelines, using pressure or weight as required.
  9. Weigh liquid-filled cylinders on platform scales and record accurate measurements.
  10. Perform leak tests by applying an approved chemical solution around the cylinder valve; document results and set aside cylinders for pressure checks as needed.
  11. Operate and maintain gas-filling and repackaging equipment safely and efficiently.
  12. Conduct all required pre-fill and post-fill inspections and quality assurance checks.
  13. Ensure all cylinders meet safety and maintenance standards; remove from service any cylinders requiring repairs or corrective action.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Ability to read, understand, and apply information from Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS).
  • Basic knowledge of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations related to cylinder handling and gas transport.
  • Strong attention to detail with the ability to identify defects and compliance issues.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Must be safety-oriented and follow established safety protocols and procedures.
  • Physical ability to lift up to 100 lbs., stand for extended periods, and perform repetitive motions.

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Ability to push, pull, lift, carry, or maneuver objects weighing up to 100 pounds.
  • Capable of standing and performing physical tasks for prolonged periods, up to 8 hours per shift.
  • Frequent physical activity required, including bending, stooping, crouching, reaching, grasping, and performing repetitive motions.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor environments and tolerate varying weather conditions and temperature extremes.
