Job summary

Wisconsin Veterinary Diagnostic Laboratory – Pathology/TSE at the University of Wisconsin‑Madison is seeking a seasonal Lab Technician to assist with CWD diagnostics. The role supports ELISA and IHC testing, sample prep, data entry into LIMS, and adherence to QA and biosafety procedures.

The position runs Monday–Friday, 7:45am–4:30pm, with potential overtime and possible renewal based on funding. Minimum HS diploma or GED with two years of relevant experience; preferred Bachelor's degree.

Qualifications

  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods while performing laboratory duties.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail and ability to accurately follow established procedures and protocols.
  • Ability to perform repetitive tasks and motions throughout the workday while maintaining accuracy and consistency.
  • Ability to maintain focus and productivity in a fast-paced, high-volume laboratory environment.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple tasks while meeting quality and turnaround time expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-analytical tasks for TSE screening using ELISA and IHC per SOPs.
  • Organize, prepare, and document samples and work logs prior to testing.
  • Read, record, and enter testing data and results into LIMS under supervision.
  • Complete QC procedures and maintain records to ensure testing accuracy.
  • Perform routine maintenance and basic troubleshooting of laboratory equipment.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment and disinfect instruments.
  • Adhere to QA, biosafety, and safety manuals.
  • Support timely CWD diagnostic testing for disease surveillance.
