Main Purpose of Job

The Maryland Park Service of the Department of Natural Resources is recruiting for multiple seasonal contractual lifeguard positions for the 2025 season at Pocomoke River State Park. Contract duration is approximately from Memorial Day to Labor Day, depending on need. Candidates must specify their interested positions on the Supplemental Questionnaire. Available Positions

• Lifeguard Series
• Lifeguard Lake/Pool
• Lifeguard Lead Lake/Pool

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old
• Must be currently certified in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR by a national agency
• Pass a physical evaluation, swim test, and written test (upload certificates)
• Certification must be obtained three weeks prior to hire

Desired or Preferred Qualifications

• At least 18 years old
• At least two months of lifeguarding experience
• Preference for Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) certification
• Pool or Spa Operator certification (preferred)

Licenses, Registrations, and Certifications

Employees may need to operate a motor vehicle, UTV, or golf cart. Valid Maryland driver’s license with five points or fewer required. Provisional licenses are not accepted.

Special Requirements

Employment may require background checks, reference checks, education verification, driving record checks, and fingerprinting. Continued employment depends on these results.

Selection Process

Applicants meeting minimum qualifications will be considered. Provide complete and accurate information. Foreign education must be evaluated for equivalency before hire.

Benefits

Contractual employees working 30+ hours per week may be eligible for health benefits, paying 25% of premiums. Other benefits include dental, life insurance, and accidental death and dismemberment insurance. Leave accrual details are provided.
