Position Overview

Salary: $17.33+/hour

Employment type: Full-time and Part-Time

Location: 17410 Recreational Area Road SW, Lonaconing MD 21539 (Allegany County)

Main Responsibilities

The Maryland Park Service is recruiting for seasonal contractual lifeguard positions at Dans Mountain State Park for the 2025 season, approximately from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Candidates must indicate their preferred position(s) on the supplemental questionnaire and review the duties of each role.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years old.
• Certified in Lifeguard Training, First Aid, and CPR by a national agency (certificates must be uploaded). Certification must be obtained three weeks prior to the start date.

Preferred Qualifications

• At least 18 years of age.
• Minimum of two months lifeguarding experience.
• Certification as a Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI) or Water Safety Instructor (WSI) is preferred. Pool or Spa Operator certification from an approved entity is also preferred.

Licenses and Certifications

Must have a valid Maryland driver’s license with five or fewer points. A provisional license is not acceptable.

Additional Requirements

Background checks, including employment references, education verification, driving record, and criminal history, may be required. Employment is contingent upon passing these checks.

Selection Process

Benefits

Eligible contractual employees working 30+ hours/week may access subsidized health benefits, paying 25% of premiums. Leave accrues at one hour per 30 hours worked, up to 40 hours annually.
