Job description

Seasonal Guest Experience Associate – Culinary

Location: Métis Crossing, Smoky Lake, AB
Closing Date: Until Suitable Candidates Found
Position Status: Seasonal (May – August), Full time

The Organization
Métis Crossing is Alberta’s first major Métis destination where we share and celebrate the Métis culture with all people! The Lodge and the Gathering Centre at Métis Crossing blend comfort, culture, and Métis history.

The Opportunity
Métis Crossing seeks aspiring culinary professionals for the position of Seasonal Guest Experience Associate (Culinary). This summer position ends on August 31, 2025. The successful applicants will support the culinary vision at Métis Crossing, including the preparation and serving of indigenous cuisine and supporting special events.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Serving Guests.
  2. Set up for events and tables.
  3. Clean tables/seating areas.
  4. Operating the Point-of-Sale System.
  5. Assist in food and beverage preparation; serve alcoholic beverages to guests if above the age of 18.
  6. Maintain and clean stations; sanitize food areas.
  7. Operate dishwasher and keep it clean.
  8. General cleaning duties include taking out the trash, sweeping, mopping, and keeping the dishwashing area clean and organized.
  9. Use and wear required equipment and clothing in compliance with OHS.
  10. Adhere to WHMIS at all times.
  11. Seed and harvest fruits and vegetables in the vertical indoor garden.
  12. Other duties as assigned.

Skills & Competencies

  1. Strong oral communication skills.
  2. Able to provide a good guest experience.
  3. Experience working with diverse audiences of varying cultural backgrounds and ages.
  4. Flexibility to adjust to changes in schedule and assignments.
  5. Attention to detail.
  6. Able to work independently and as part of a team.
  7. Ability to work in a noisy, fast-paced, multitasking environment.
  8. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds.
  9. Ability to work in a physically demanding area, including standing for the duration of shifts.

Preferred Qualifications

  1. Basic understanding of food service requirements.
  2. Previous experience as a Kitchen Helper or server.
  3. WHMIS and basic First Aid.
  4. Knowledge of safe and sanitary food handling procedures.
  5. Knowledge of Alberta history and cultural diversity.
  6. Knowledge of Alberta Métis.

Other Requirements

  1. Availability to work a mixed schedule of days, evenings, and weekends.
  2. Ability to work at Métis Crossing in Smoky Lake.
  3. Clear Criminal Record Check required.

Employment Details:
Schedule will be based on a 40-hour work week, including weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
