Job summary

Port of Bellingham is seeking a Seasonal Groundskeeper to perform mowing, trimming, edging and irrigation of turf areas, as well as pruning and planting of trees, shrubs, and flowers. The role includes sanitation duties and general grounds maintenance across multiple park program areas.

You will operate riding mowers and hand tools, drive trucks with trailers, prune and chip vegetation, and assist with repairs to park buildings and equipment under supervision.

Qualifications

• One-year paid grounds maintenance experience preferred.
• Knowledge of horticultural equipment operation preferred.

Responsibilities

• Operates riding mowing equipment to mow turf and power hand tools such as mowers, weed eaters, edgers and blowers.
• Operates pickup trucks with trailers and small utility tractors.
• Prunes or removes trees and shrubs using pruners, loppers, bow saws and power chainsaws; operates chipper equipment.
• Performs turf repairs, renovations and installations; irrigates turf, trees and shrubs.
• Maintains shrub bed areas with edging, hand weeding and mulch; maintains ornamental and flower displays.
• Rakes leaves and debris; operates blowers, vacuums and high-pressure washers.
• Cleans buildings and structures, empties trash containers and picks up litter.
• Assists with repairs, alterations and installation work to park buildings, structures and equipment involving carpentry, painting, masonry and other manual trades.
