Job summary

Saddle & Cycle Club is seeking a Groundskeeper in Chicago, IL to maintain lawns, parking areas, and club facilities. You will use tools to trim, edge, water, and support seasonal court and greens maintenance.

The role requires a High School Diploma or GED and 2+ years of ground maintenance experience, with the ability to operate equipment, read chemical labels, and perform basic math under varying weather conditions.

Qualifications

  • Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or GED with minimum of two (2) years of ground maintenance, landscaping, irrigation, or golf course operations preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain lawns, prune bushes and trees, edge walkways, and keep grounds manicured.
  • Operate snow removal equipment during winter to clear walkways, parking lots, and entrances.
  • Watering, manual or through irrigation systems, for the entire campus.
  • Perform special landscaping or planting projects as needed, including seasonal plantings.
  • Seasonal placement/removal of outdoor furniture, grills, and décor.
  • Assist in preparing clay tennis courts for the season and maintaining greens for a 3-hole golf course and bocce ballcourt.
  • Assist in equipment maintenance and minor repairs on lawn care tools.
  • Be dependable and able to work the required schedule with minimal supervision.

Job Title: Groundskeeper
Reports to: Assistant Grounds Manager
Direct Reports: None
FLSA: Non-Exempt - Hourly

JOB SUMMARY

The Groundskeeper is responsible for the maintenance of landscaping and other club facilities, including parking lots.

  • Use equipment and hand tools to maintain lawns, prune bushes and trees, edge walkways, and give the grounds a manicured look.
  • Operate snow removal equipment during the winter to keep all walkways, parking lots, and building entrances clear and safe.
  • Watering, either manual or through an irrigation system, for the entire campus.
  • Perform special landscaping or planting projects as deemed necessary, such as seasonal plantings for the entire campus.
  • Seasonal placement and removal of all outdoor furniture, grills, etc.
  • Installation and removal of all seasonal décor.
  • Assist in performing regular maintenance and minor repairs on lawn care equipment and tools.
  • Assist in preparing clay tennis courts for the season.
  • Maintain the greens for a 3‑hole golf course.
  • Maintain the bocce ballcourt.
  • Be dependable and able to work the schedule required.
  • Have the ability to complete tasks with little supervision.
  • Pay strong attention to detail.
  • Have knowledge of and ability to perform the required role in emergency situations.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned and not outlined above.

Language Skills: Ability to effectively read labels and instructions for chemicals and equipment. Ability to communicate or exchange ideas by means of spoken word to Members, Guests, Vendors, Managers, and Team Members.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with basic mathematical concepts such as probability, division, addition, subtraction, and multiplication.

Reasoning Ability: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
