Job summary

County of Cook - Niles Park District is seeking a Golf Course Groundskeeper to maintain the pristine condition and aesthetic of the golf course. You will perform mowing, trimming, sand trap maintenance, and general landscaping tasks outdoors in varying weather.

Qualifications

Description

Job Summary: As a Golf Course Groundskeeper, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the pristine condition and aesthetic appeal of our golf course. Your responsibilities will include performing various tasks such as mowing, trimming, raking sand traps, and engaging in general labor activities. You will work outdoors, often in varying weather conditions, to ensure that the golf course remains in top-notch condition for the enjoyment of our members and guests.

Key Responsibilities
  • Mow grass using precision equipment to ensure uniformity and neatness across the course.
  • Trim edges along pathways, bunkers, and other designated areas to maintain clean lines and manicured appearance.
  • Rake and maintain sand traps to ensure they are free from debris and provide a consistent playing surface.
  • Perform general labor tasks such as weeding, mulching, and planting to enhance the overall landscape of the golf course.
  • Operate and maintain equipment, including mowers, trimmers, and utility vehicles, ensuring they are in good working condition.
  • Monitor turf conditions and report any issues or concerns to the supervisor for prompt resolution.
  • Adhere to safety protocols and guidelines to prevent accidents and ensure a safe working environment for yourself and others.
Requirements
  • Experience: Prior experience in groundskeeping, landscaping, or a related field is preferred but not required. On-the-job training will be provided.
  • Physical Stamina: Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting heavy equipment, bending, stooping, and standing for extended periods.
  • Attention to Detail: Keen eye for detail to ensure that all areas of the golf course are meticulously maintained to the highest standards.
  • Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks effectively and work efficiently to meet deadlines and maintain the schedule for golf course maintenance.
  • Team Player: Willingness to collaborate with other groundskeeping staff and communicate effectively with supervisors and other team members.
  • Weather Tolerance: Ability to work outdoors in various weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and humidity.
  • Equipment Operation: Basic knowledge of and ability to operate landscaping equipment safely and effectively.
  • Passion for Golf: While not mandatory, a passion for the game of golf and an understanding of the importance of course maintenance in providing an exceptional golfing experience is a plus.
Education and Certification
  • High school diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Any relevant certifications in landscaping, turf management, or equipment operation would be advantageous.
