About our opportunity:
The City of Asheville is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Facility Attendant in the Community and Regional Entertainment FacilitiesDepartment at the WNC Nature Center. The WNC Nature Center connects people with the animals and plants of the Southern Appalachian Mountains and inspires appreciation, conservation, and respect for nature. This position is an integral part of maintaining clean, safe, and welcoming facilities for our guests and staff.

  • Perform custodial duties throughout the grounds and facilities, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and waxing floors.

  • Clean restrooms, offices, kitchens, windows, public areas, and staff workspaces.

  • Dust and polish furniture, displays, exhibits, equipment, and other fixtures.

  • Disinfect and deodorize bathrooms and replenish paper and soap products as needed.

  • Collect and dispose of trash and recyclables; replace liners in receptacles.

  • Secure buildings by locking/unlocking doors and gates, resetting alarms, and turning off unused equipment.

  • Operate equipment such as vacuum cleaners, buffers, ladders, and various cleaning supplies while following safety guidelines.

  • Monitor inventory and restock custodial supplies as needed.

  • Communicate with staff and supervisors to coordinate duties and report maintenance needs.

Benefits:

  • Salary:$19.40/hour


About you:
We know your time is valuable. Applicants who meet the following minimum requirements or have comparable experience and/or education will be considered:

  • One year of experience in custodial, janitorial, or facilities maintenance work, plus a High School Diploma or GED

Performance aptitudes:

  • Must have the ability to communicate effectively, follow written and verbal instructions, and work both independently and as part of a team.

  • Ability to use custodial equipment safely and effectively.

  • Must be comfortable interacting with staff and the public courteously and professionally.

Physical requirements:

  • Work involves moderate physical effort including lifting, pushing, pulling, bending, and prolonged standing or walking.

  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

  • Work is performed indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
