Job summary

The Greater Philadelphia YMCA is seeking an Assistant Equestrian Camp Director for Camp Speers in the Poconos on a seasonal basis. The role focuses on leading riding activities, maintaining safety standards, and guiding campers through progressive horsemanship experiences.

The ideal candidate brings 3+ years in a camp setting, strong horse knowledge, CHA or equivalent certification, and excellent communication and leadership abilities, all within a mission-driven YMCA environment.

Qualifications

• 21+ years of age.
• 3+ years of experience at Camp Speers or a comparable program.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong organizational and leadership abilities.
• Passion for the YMCA mission and member service.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement riding curricula focused on safety, enjoyment, and skill progression.
• Enforce riding procedures and compliance with YMCA, ACA, CHA, and risk management standards.
• Evaluate participants, assign riding levels, and schedule lessons.
• Provide riding instruction and teach basic horsemanship and horse management.
• Assist with daily horse care, feeding, health checks, and stable maintenance.
• Maintain clean and safe stables, riding rings, pastures, fences, and surrounding areas.
• Identify horse health concerns and facility maintenance needs, reporting as needed.
• Supervise riding staff and coordinate staff assignments in the Director’s absence.
• Support camp programming, events, and administrative operations to ensure a safe, engaging camp experience.
• Contribute to seasonal evaluations, inventory, end-of-season reports, and recommendations for future programming.
