Job summary

Greater Philadelphia YMCA’s Camp Speers in the Poconos is seeking a Seasonal Camp Unit Leader to join our team. This overnight position offers $400-$450 per week and a chance to guide campers and coach staff in a welcoming Y community.

You will supervise activities, train staff, enforce safety, and maintain open communication with parents while promoting inclusion and a fun, values-driven camping experience.

Qualifications

• At least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Or enrolled in a minimum of 2 years of child development coursework approved by state licensing requirements.
• Experience working with children and at least two seasons working as a Y Camp Counselor or as a counselor in a comparable program.
• Enthusiasm, sense of humor, patience and experience working with children.
• Ability to lead and motivate a team.
• Ability to deal effectively with inappropriate behavior and recognize hazard situations.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and train staff to ensure effective implementation of programs and activities. Coach and train staff in providing quality camping experience.
• Plan and oversee the implementation of a variety of camp activities; ensure activities are age appropriate and contribute to the overall growth and development of the campers.
• Identify, address, and redirect/correct inappropriate behavior.
• Ensure appropriate behavior of campers and staff to avoid the risk of accidents.
• Assist in maintaining effective communication with parents/guardians regarding camper and camp activities.
• Embody the GPY commitment to diversity and inclusion, no matter race, color, creed, or gender identification.
