Description

Who We Are:

The Department of Conversation & Recreation (DCR) is steward of one of the largest state parks systems in the country. Its 450,000 acres is made up of forests, parks, greenways, historic sites and landscapes, seashores, lakes, ponds, reservoirs, and watersheds. The DCR also oversees several swimming pools, wading pools, and spray decks.

Position Information:

Long-Term Seasonal Electrician II (West Region): 05/19/25-11/01/25 (24 weeks) @ 40 hrs: Contact Supervisor for schedule. 1 position(s).

This position reports to Hampton Ponds State Park, 1048 N Rd, Westfield

Please note, if you are selected for this position and will be working less than 90 days, the position will automatically revert to a short-term position.

Position Summary:

The Department of Conservation and Recreation seeks qualified applicants for the position of Long-Term Seasonal Electrician (West Region)

Duties:

  • Repair and replace electrical services to DCR facilities
  • Work with other contractors, utility companies and other trades people to get the job started and completed
  • All work to be performed to Mass state electrical code
  • All work to be done in a neat and professional manner
  • Troubleshooting electrical problems and taking proper actions to fix an issue
  • Order stock and related materials to complete a task
  • Properly fill out CAMIS work orders in a timely manner

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to safely and properly work with hand and power tools
  • At least one year experience as a Journeyman or Master Electrician
  • Ability to safely and properly work with hand and power tools
  • General knowledge of all trades e.g. plumbing, electrical, carpentry, welding, masonry
  • Jobs may require additional training such as confined space, ladder safety, hazardous materials

Other:

Must have current and valid Massachusetts Motor Vehicle Operator’s (Class D) license.

About the Division of Design and Engineering:

Continuing over a century of visionary land stewardship, DCR’s Division of Design & Engineering (D&E) collaborates with colleagues within DCR, other agencies, and communities across the state to plan, design, build, and maintain a diversity of outdoor recreational experiences and unique landscapes throughout the Commonwealth. In addition, our staff is responsible for maintaining public infrastructure including dams, seawalls, parkways and park roads, sidewalks and trails, and stormwater systems. This requires employing a diverse range of talent including architects, engineers, landscape architects, planners, tradespeople as well as business, finance and administrative support who work together to support D&E’s mission. Our staff is unified by a passion for providing access to high quality public open space and outdoor recreation for all ages and abilities, and strive to improve visitor experience, enhance universal accessibility, and help modernize DCR’s facilities and resources to be more carbon neutral, energy independent, and resilient to climate change.

Qualifications

First consideration will be given to those applicants that apply within the first 14 days.

Minimum Entrance Requirements: Applicants must have at least one year of full-time, or equivalent part-time, experience as a licensed journeyman or master electrician.

Special Requirements: Possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Journeyman or Master Electrician's License issued by the State Examiners of Electricians.*

*NOTE: License requirement regarding the Department of Public Works: Neither general street lighting nor traffic work performed by the Department of Public Works or its agents or employees on public ways is subject to licensing requirements of M.G.L. Chap. 141. 1976 - 1977 Op AG, No. 26.

Based on assignment, possession of a current and valid Massachusetts Class 3 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
