Job summary

Thompson Boat Center in Washington, DC is hiring a Seasonal Dock Hand for the 2026 boating season (August–November). This part-time position requires weekend availability and holiday shifts to ensure guest safety and smooth dock operations.

As a Dock Hand you will help with docking boats, assist guests on and off rental equipment, perform basic maintenance, keep facilities clean, provide friendly customer service, and respond to first aid needs when required. Safety and teamwork are essential.

Qualifications

• Partial high school education required; High School Diploma or GED preferred.
• Strong customer service skills and a friendly, professional demeanor.
• Ability to swim or be willing to wear a personal flotation device (PFD) while on duty.
• CPR/First Aid Certification preferred or required (training available upon hire).

Responsibilities

• Maintaining a safe environment at the boating area by following procedures.
• Assist with docking of boats and help customers on and off rental equipment.
• Keep a lookout on the water and rinse/wash rental equipment.
• Boathouse maintenance: cleaning, weeding, trash removal, supplies organization.
• Maintain bathrooms, locker rooms, and gym cleanliness.
• Provide excellent customer service and direct issues to supervisor.
• Provide First Aid & CPR to guests if needed; issue receipts and refunds as required.
• Ensure security of company property and equipment during opening/closing.

JOB SUMMARY The Dock Hand is responsible for supporting all boathouse services and operations by ensuring guest safety, maintaining dock cleanliness and organization, providing excellent customer service, and assisting guests safely in and out of boats.
