Job summary

The Perot Museum of Nature and Science is seeking a Seasonal Discovery Camp Educator in Dallas to lead science-based activities for groups of children aged 5–13 during fall and winter camps.

The role requires a 4-year degree or progress toward one, plus teaching experience in formal or informal settings. Must be able to drive to off-site locations if needed and participate in training sessions in November 2026.

Qualifications

• College degree or are working towards a degree in the sciences, arts, or education.
• Two or more years of instruction experience in formal or informal settings.
• Ability to work with children aged 5–13, manage behavior, and be creative and flexible.
• Motivated with a positive attitude capable of leading groups.
• Familiarity with computers and software such as Excel/Outlook/Word.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate content and activities for Discovery Camp based on provided theme.
• Teach informal science education aligned to theme and engage students.
• Serve as lead instructor for classes up to 23 children.
• Supervise campers in classrooms and Museum areas.
• Assist with materials/resources and ensure camp procedures are followed.

Job DetailsLevel: ExperiencedJob Location: 2201 N Field St Dallas TX 75201 - Dallas, TX 75201Position Type: SeasonalEducation Level: 4 Year DegreeThis is a seasonal position within the duration fall and winter camp. This short-term position may begin as early as November 18, 2026 and terminates on the final day of winter camp on December 30. Educators are expected to be present at the Museum between 8:00 – 5:00 during camp and attend in-person information sessions prior to the start of camp.

Required training days are November 18-20, 2026.

Fall Discovery Camp runs November 23-25, 2026. Winter Discovery Camp runs December 20-23 and December 28-30, 2026. Discovery Camp consists of themed sessions for students 5-13 years of age.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Facilitate content and activities for Discovery Camp based on provided theme
• Teach informal science education aligned to theme and engages students
• Serve as lead instructor of classes up to 23 children
• Supervise campers both inside the classroom and within the Museum
• Ability to use a personal vehicle for off-site camp programs
• Request materials/resources needed for content in a timely manner
• Uphold and execute all Discovery Camp procedures and policies
• Assist with the arrival and pickup of campers and assisting them to their correct classroom or vehicle
• Communicate and provide clear directions and expectations to educators and volunteers aiding the class
• Other duties as assigned

QualificationsQualifications

• College degree or are working towards a degree in the sciences, arts, or education
• Two or more years of experience in instruction and curriculum development in a formal or informal environment
• Ability to work comfortably with children ages 5 - 13, including handling disciplinary issues, resolving conflicts, and being creative and flexible
• Highly motivated with a positive attitude that can effectively lead groups
• Understanding of computers and various software programs (Excel, Outlook, Word etc.)
• Current CPR/First Aid certification or be able to attend training prior to the start of camps
• Must have a driver’s license and car insurance that meets the state minimum standards for coverage
• Consistent form of communication that is checked regularly with responses provided in a timely manner
• Communicate at a highly professional level in both oral and written form
• Ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with individuals and groups
