Job description

Status: Open Until May 16, 2025

Position: Seasonal Summer Camp Counselor

This is a seasonal summer position from May 19 – July 31, 2025. The hours of work will be between 7:00am – 6:00pm, Monday – Friday. *For the week of May 19 – 23, the hours of work will be between 10:00am – 8:00pm. Employees may work up to 40 hours per week during weeks of camp. Under general supervision, this position assists recreation staff in directing recreational activities for youth, ages 6 through 12, in the Gem City Summer Day Camp program.

Responsibilities include:

  • Ensure a fun and safe environment for camp program participants
  • Leading participants in a variety of recreational activities
  • Chaperoning field trips and other organized activities and games
  • Assisting in supervising the activities of children participating in the summer camp program
  • Assisting with cleaning and maintaining recreation facilities and equipment, as necessary
  • Assisting with serving snacks daily
  • Perform First Aid and complete incident reports as needed
  • Performing associated duties as required

Rate of Pay: $15.00

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Some experience (paid or voluntary) in providing instruction or guidance to youths in areas such as athletics, arts and crafts, dance, group game activities, or other related recreational activities, or supplemental coursework in recreation, athletics, arts and crafts, or related fields
  • Ability to enforce department, facility and camp facility rules and regulations
  • Skill in written and oral communications
  • Must successfully complete in-house First Aid/CPR/AED certification during staff training week
  • Must have availability during all of camp:
  • STAFF TRAINING / PARENT ORIENTATIONS – Monday, May 19 – Friday, May 23, 10:00am – 8:00pm
  • WEEK 1 – Monday, May 26 – Friday, May 30, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 2 – Monday, June 2 – Friday, June 6, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 3 – Monday, June 9 – Friday, June 13, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 4 – Monday, June 16 – Friday, June 20, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 5 – Monday, June 23 – Friday, June 27, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • NO CAMP – Monday, June 30 – Friday, July 4 – NO CAMP THIS WEEK
  • WEEK 6 – Monday, July 7 – Friday, July 11, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 7 – Monday, July 14 – Friday, July 18, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 8 – Monday, July 21 – Friday, July 25, 7:00am – 6:00pm
  • WEEK 9 – Monday, July 28 – Thursday, July 31, 7:00am – 6:00pm Bonus Week (4 days)
