Job Opportunities with the City of Southfield, MI

Join our team to help maintain and improve the city’s infrastructure and public spaces. We have multiple positions starting in April, each with a work schedule of 40 hours per week.

Available Divisions and Responsibilities

1. Outside Maintenance: Maintenance of city streets including cold patching, mowing, weed whipping, and site cleanup and restoration. Operate city vehicles and power tools.
2. Water Division: Install and repair meters, site cleanup, restoration, and sewer jet crew activities. Operate city vehicles and power tools. Must wear steel-toed shoes.
3. Forestry Division: Forestry maintenance and landscaping, including brush chipping. Operate city vehicles and power tools.
4. Motor Pool: Assist with inventory, parts pickup, and exterior vehicle maintenance. Operate vehicles and power tools.
5. Traffic/Sign Shop: Assist with traffic counts, sign repairs, and fabrication. Operate vehicles and power tools.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two to three years of seasonal maintenance work experience.
• Valid driver’s license with a good driving record.
• Ability to understand and follow oral and written instructions and work effectively with others.
• Availability for overtime as needed.
