Job summary

Jekyll Island Authority is seeking a winter seasonal Conservation Assistant to support wildlife and habitat management under the Wildlife Biologist and Conservation Director. Duties will vary seasonally and focus on land management and habitat restoration on Jekyll Island.

The role requires a related Bachelor’s degree with field experience, coastal ecology knowledge, a valid driver’s license, and flexibility for early morning or evening work. Housing options are available on-island.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in related fields preferred with minimum 1 year field experience.
• Good communication and coastal Southeast ecology familiarity required.
• Ability to use a plant key; knowledge of coastal species preferred.
• Valid driver's license; off-road vehicle experience preferred.
• Experience with field equipment (battery/gas-powered) desired.
• Flexible schedule including early morning/evening shifts.

Responsibilities

• Contribute to planning and preparing priority habitats for restoration.
• Native plant propagation in a greenhouse setting.
• Restoration planting and invasive species control.
• Seed collection of native plants for regional restoration projects.
• Work independently and with staff, volunteers, and other departments.
• Adapt to shifting priorities and dynamic field conditions.
• Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
