Seasonal Chef Instructor, Pastry (Sur La Table)

The Seasonal Chef Instructor, Pastry contributes to store success by inspiring customers throughout their culinary journey. The role combines culinary talent and teaching skills to support the Resident Chef and drive business results. The instructor reports to the Resident Chef.

Job Duties and Responsibilities
  • Model and direct employees to meet customer service standards.
  • Deliver exceptional cooking classes using provided recipes and plans.
  • Maintain product knowledge and seek additional training resources.
  • Ensure sanitation and cleanliness standards are met; keep work and guest areas organized.
  • Cook and serve food at correct temperatures and under sanitary conditions.
  • Work as part of a team to achieve sales goals, including individual and class sales.
  • Communicate policies and SOPs effectively; ensure they are followed.
  • Provide coaching and performance feedback to Kitchen Assistants and communicate issues to the Resident Chef.
  • Identify opportunities to increase class and retail sales.
  • Record work hours accurately per policy.
  • Anticipate and solve problems, following up with the Resident Chef.
  • Communicate effectively with employees, customers, and management.
  • May handle alcohol and prepare cocktails as needed.
Essential Functions
  • Verbal communication and teamwork skills.
  • Ability to remain stationary for up to 3 hours.
  • Ability to move around the workspace and demonstrate techniques.
  • Sensory ability to distinguish flavors and odors.
  • Physical ability to reach, bend, kneel, and lift up to 35 lbs.
  • Flexible schedule for classes at different times.
  • Proficiency with computers and POS systems.
  • Regular attendance.
Qualifications
  • 1-2 years kitchen operations experience.
  • Culinary degree in Pastry or equivalent experience.
  • Successful teaching and training experience.
  • Valid Food Handlers and/or Food Managers Certification.
  • At least 21 years old.
  • Familiarity with MS Office.
  • Ability to drive sales and motivate teams.
  • Strong communication skills.
