Responsibilities:
- Provide high-quality programming and recreational opportunities for camp participants ages 6-15.
- Supervise campers and ensure their safety, development, growth, skill achievement, and general well-being.
- Organize and lead various small and large group activities.
- Ensure cleanliness of the site, including sweeping, mopping, and cleaning up after activities.
- Assist in maintaining accurate program records, including incident reports and daily attendance.
- Mediates any campers’ disputes.
- Know, enforce, and follow all safety guidelines associated with the camp program, always including the whereabouts of your campers.
- Provide positive and enthusiastic customer service to all members and guests.
- Maintain constant surveillance of the pool area and be confident in the water.
- Use sound judgment in handling discipline issues with campers and make quick decisions to ensure the safety of all.
- Accompany groups on field trips.
Minimum Requirements:
- Education: Requires a High School diploma or GED and one year of recreation experience. An Associates degree or two years of college with major coursework in leisure services, park administration, or a related field preferred.
- License: A valid Texas Class C driver’s license required.
- Experience: Working and supervising children in recreation or camp environments preferred; cash handling is a plus.
- Current Infant/Child/Adult CPR and First Aid with AED certification or ability to attend training upon employment offer.
- Camp, youth programs, recreation, or working with children experience preferred, but not required.
Qualifications:
- Must be mature, enthusiastic, imaginative, energetic, and creative, with strong leadership skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, organization, and mediation skills.
- Ability to motivate and maintain a positive atmosphere, and if necessary, use positive disciplinary techniques.
- Working knowledge of company safety protocols and ability to administer minor medical care.
- Leadership, alertness, and patience.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to last-minute changes.
- Physical stamina and ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
- Ability to withstand working outdoors in extreme weather conditions.
- Must be able to lift, pull, push, or drag up to 60 pounds of equipment, i.e., ice chest, supply boxes, inventory.
- Commit to the seasonal schedule.
- Must be able to attend camp counselor orientation and training prior to the first day of camp.
