As a member of the Community Operations – Parks team, this position is responsible for the seasonal maintenance, monitoring of the beach areas, gardening duties and upkeep of washroom facilities around the City.
This includes, but is not limited to:
- Maintain beach areas and Class 1 parks including beach grooming
- Daily upkeep, cleaning and stocking of washroom facilities
This position provides seasonal assistance in the attainment of annual goals and initiatives within the City of Chestermere’s Strategic Plan.

The Seasonal Attendant, Beach represents the values and beliefs of the City of Chestermere, both internally and externally.
Main responsibilities:
- Ensure a safe and healthy work environment for staff, visitors, the community and stakeholders, e.g., participate in workplace safety initiatives, participate in formal and informal worksite safety and environment inspections and audits.
- Responsible for using confidential information appropriately, and maintaining the confidentiality and security of all information related to the City.
- Seasonal Attendant, Beach accountabilities
- Provide seasonal labour in:
- Maintaining cleanliness of the parks
- Upkeep of the beach areas and Class 1 parks e.g., responsible for litter picking, changing garbage cans, cleaning up weeds from beach areas; ensuring that the washrooms are cleaned and stocked on a daily basis.
- Park maintenance e.g. gardening duties of beach areas and Class 1 parks which includes but not limited to weeding, edging, cultivating and deadheading flowers.
- Equipment upkeep, e.g., keep equipment clean; report broken or faulty equipment to the Parks Gardening Coordinator.
- Grooming of all beach/sand areas on a daily basis.
- Support safe beach use and traffic patterns and in the parks throughout the season.
- Conduct inventory of supplies needed at each facility.
- As required, participate in the assessment of the current and future needs of the beaches, gathering input and feedback.
- As required, participate in the enhancement and implementation of City and Department Policies and Procedures within legislative, regulatory requirements and best practices.

Required education and experience:
- High School Diploma (asset).
- Currently attending a post-secondary institution (asset).
Required knowledge, skills, and attributes:
- Required certifications and/or documentation
- Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License.
- Drivers Abstract deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Clear Criminal Record deemed satisfactory by the City.
- Valid Standard First Aid CPR C and AED certifications.
- Expected skills and attributes
- Working knowledge of parks maintenance procedures.
- Analytical and creative thinking skills as a member of the Community Operations – Parks team, e.g., ability to solve problems, make decisions, negotiate and deal effectively with people.
- Communication skills with the ability to communicate effectively in written and oral form, e.g., maintain ongoing communication to anticipate and prevent potential problems, develop and maintain positive and effective working relationships with other seasonal staff, the public and other stakeholders.
- Strong work ethic and highly motivated, e.g., ability to work in a fast-paced environment and respond to action requests and competing deadlines in a timely manner.
- Ability to be self-motivated and utilize time effectively to complete tasks with minimal supervision.
- Ability to read and understand SDS sheets and cleaning product labels.
- Ability to lift 23 kgs/50lbs
- Ability to operate appropriate equipment in a safe and efficient manner.
- Preferred skills and attributes
- Previous ground maintenance experience (removing weeds, garbage, flowerbeds, cleaning washrooms, etc.).
Working Conditions:
- Weekend and evening availability are required.
- Regular outdoor work in a variety of weather conditions.
- Regular, physically demanding work, including standing, walking, crouching for extended periods of time.
- Regularly working within the community.
- Provide assistance to other departments or employees as needed.
- May encounter unpleasant interactions with members of the public and other stakeholders.
- Stress associated with providing a City presence at the beach areas to monitor littering, inappropriate use of facilities and report to appropriate personnel as needed.
- Stress associated with risk management and the responsibility for the safety of citizens.
- Personal Protective Equipment required e.g. Steel toed boots.
- Driving regularly between sites to perform duties.

Compensation: Pay Grade will be determined by position placement.
Pay: $17.75 *Subject to Shift Premium of $2.00/HR for weekend and certain evening hours.

- 2 Positions Available:
- Wednesday – Sunday 1:00PM-9:30PM; Monday & Tuesday OFF.
- Friday – Tuesday 1:00PM-9:30PM; Wednesday & Thursday OFF.
Start Date: May 5 – End Date: September 1 subject to change.
