Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania seeks Able-Bodied Sailors to join the U.S. Brig Niagara at the Erie Maritime Center. This seasonal, full-time role involves seamanship, ship maintenance, and guiding guests through life aboard a square-rigged vessel.

Work runs March through October with sail training May through September. Salary includes room and board; telework is not available. Email communications will follow.

Qualifications

• Six months experience aboard a sailing vessel of 100 tons or greater.
• Eligibility for a United States Coast Guard Able-Bodied Seaman's Sailing Card.
• You must possess a USCG Able-Bodied Sail Certification.

Responsibilities

• Seamanship knowledge to help operate and maintain the vessel.
• Maintenance tasks in rigging, marine coatings, carpentry, engineering, and general upkeep.
• Assists Ordinary Sailors, volunteers, trainees, and students during daily activities.
• Help provide visitors with an understanding of life on a 19th century sailing ship.
• Keep the ship, shop, and berthing spaces neat and presentable.
