A leading healthcare provider is seeking a Seamstress/Laundry worker responsible for managing laundry operations, including sorting, labeling, and maintaining personal clothing for residents. The ideal candidate will possess sewing experience, strong communication skills, and the ability to operate commercial laundry equipment safely.

Job description

$17.00/hour

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Receive and follow laundry schedule and instructions from his/her supervisor and/or as outlined in the St. Luke established laundry service policies and procedures.

2. Gather personals that need labeling or repair as instructed.

3. Make labels that need to be sewn on.

4. After labeling, mending, altering, etc., ensure personals are delivered to the resident's room and labeling form is left in the resident's room

5. Keep an updated folder of resident personal clothing that has been or will be labeled.

6. When not sewing, labeling and mending, the Seamstress/Laundry worker will collect, sort and weigh soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and place in appropriate containers and/or assigned areas.

7. Sort soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., and separate those items that require special stain removal/treatment.

8. Sort, count, and wash soiled laundry, linen, garments, etc., as established by our operating policies and procedures and as instructed by your supervisor.

9. Press/iron garments as instructed

10. Fold, count, stack, hang and distribute clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., as necessary.

11. During emergency conditions, ensure that clean laundry, linen, garments, etc., are distributed to designated areas.

12. Load and unload washers and dryers.

13. Other related duties that may become necessary or as directed by the supervisor, Department Head and/or Administrator.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Related experience or training with sewing procedures preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
  • Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant such action.
  • Must possess the ability to deal tactfully with personnel, residents, visitors and the general public.
  • Must learn to operate commercial laundry equipment in a safe efficient manner. Must know how to sew, mend, alter, sew labels, etc.
  • Must know how to maintain and update files.
  • Existing employees must have a satisfactory work record in their prior positions.
  • Related experience or training with sewing procedures preferred.
  • Must be able to read, write and speak the English language.
