Job Description

Under general supervision, the Seal Repair Technician 2 is responsible for all processes related to disassembly and assembly of rotating equipment. The Seal Repair Technician 2 follows instructions from a repair job packet and router to perform DCI (Dismantle, Clean, and Inspect) and provides a written description of the wear and condition of critical components and seals. This position completes all inspection forms, takes pictures of all critical components, and uses inspection equipment for proper documentation of the assembly. With assistance, the technician identifies, inspects, and evaluates returned materials, determines repair operations, performs simple shop operations, verifies specifications, initiates work and purchase orders.

Responsibilities
  1. Receives John Crane parts and materials returned by customers and branch offices.
  2. Evaluates the condition of materials, checks current drawing revisions, and applies general product knowledge to determine if materials are repairable or non-repairable.
  3. Inspects and identifies returned materials.
  4. Ensures all components are properly cleaned and free from foreign material according to departmental procedures.
  5. Performs the assembly of seals once repairs are approved and all components are ready.
  6. Repairs returned seals and seal parts under close supervision.
  7. Checks cost structure, determines repair pricing, and ensures assembly is correctly structured.
  8. Verifies that BOM (bill of materials), drawings, and repair parts match.
  9. Performs simple operations on drill presses, tool post grinders, bead blast polishers, and lapping machines.
  10. Uses measuring instruments such as micrometers, vernier calipers, dial indicators, and optical flats to verify part specifications.
  11. Initiates purchase orders for new jobs if vendors are involved.
  12. Consults with Engineering or Sales departments as needed.
  13. Maintains records and a small inventory of seal parts used for repairs.
  14. Works from factory work orders, prints, rework orders, and verbal instructions.
  15. Assists newer repair personnel as necessary.
  16. Sets up and troubleshoots lapping machines for repair maintenance.
  17. Communicates with customers regarding service, checks computer system for credit and address information, and prices repairs.
  18. Maintains a clean and organized work environment.
  19. Performs additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience.
  • Ability to read, write, and understand simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
  • Effective communication skills for one-on-one and small group interactions.
  • Basic math skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with 10's and 100's.
  • Ability to understand and follow written, oral, or diagram instructions.
  • Problem-solving skills involving multiple variables in standardized situations.
