Job summary

Weis Markets, Inc. in Hillsborough, NJ is seeking a Seafood Associate to keep the seafood area stocked and appealing. You will greet customers, offer suggestions on seafood preparation, and assist with future delivery orders and special requests.

Responsibilities include rotating displays, ensuring freshness and correct signage, weighing and wrapping items, maintaining sanitation, and helping manage inventory. Training provided and opportunities for growth.

  • Maintains sanitation; follows cleaning schedules; disposes of trash; ensures work areas meet health/OSHA requirements.
  • Helps manage inventory and control losses; assists with receiving and storage where trained.
  • May assist other departments; training provided.

Job Description:
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Keeps seafood area well stocked and appealing to meet customer requirements. Smiles and greets customers, makes suggestions and provides information on seafood preparation. Takes orders for future delivery and helps fill special requests.Helps resolve customer concerns in a prompt and courteous manner.
  • Sets up displays and rotates product as needed. Ensures that seafood is fresh, in saleable condition with proper prices and signage. Handles product that is spoiled, damaged or close to expiration as detailed by company procedures and standards. Removes product that is not saleable to ensure quality.
  • Weighs and wraps merchandise for customers and applies sticker showing price and weight. Maintains necessary logs to track freshness and quality. Adheres to all food and personal safety codes when handling product or utilizing kitchen tools.
  • Responsible for general sanitation of the department. Follows cleaning schedules and department guidelines to ensure that work areas, equipment, counters, display cases, etc. are well maintained, clean and meet all health and OSHA requirements. Disposes of trash properly.
  • Helps manager control inventory through proper ordering.Helps minimize losses by returning products to refrigeration. Reports shortages or overages to manager.
  • May assist with receiving, unloading, checking-in, breaking-down, and storing deliveries through operation of a power jack or hand jack if properly trained. Training provided.
  • May assist with baling cardboard or other related duties if properly trained. Training provided.
  • Ensures smooth function of department and store by cooperating with co-workers and superiors. Responsible to continuously improve job performance.
  • Responsible for utilization of all company provided Personal Protected Equipment (PPE). Including but not limited to cut resistant gloves, safety cutters, company sponsored footwear, etc.
  • May also be called upon to assist in other departments.
SUPERVISIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

This position currently has no supervisor responsibilities.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

To perform this job successfully, the Associate must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily with or without an accommodation. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities required:

Education and/or experience completed or working towards a high school diploma or general education degree (GED). No prior experience required.

Payrate: $15.92-$23.00

Your Future
  • Age 21 or older are auto‑enrolled after 60 days into our 401(k) retirement savings plan. The employer match is 50% on the first 6% of employee contributions. Employer contributions are 100% vested after three consecutive years of service and completing 1,000 hours each year.
  • Associates with one year of service as of March 1 may apply for our Weis scholarship program.
