Job summary

Mercy Hospital Southeast in Cape Girardeau, MO is seeking a SE Weekender Registered Nurse for the Operating Room. The role is full-time (36 hours/week) with 12-hour day shifts on weekends, located in the OR.

Eligible OR RNs may receive a sign-on bonus up to $20,000 based on experience, plus bridging programs for BSN/MSN. Applicants must have 1+ year OR nursing experience, an RN license (state or compact), and BLS certification either at hire or within 30 days.

Qualifications

• 1 year OR nursing experience required.
• Graduate from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• RN license in hiring state and/or compact licensure must be obtained and maintained.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or completion within 30 days of hire.
• Other unit specific certifications as required.
• Physical requirements include lifting 50 pounds regularly, prolonged standing and walking, and ability to reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat.

Qualifications

• Experience: At least 1 year of OR nursing experience is required.
• Required Education: Graduated from a school of nursing (Associate's Degree, Diploma, or BSN).
• Licensure: Is personally responsible for obtaining, and maintaining, a current RN license within the hiring state and/or compact licensure in which nursing duties are performed and must meet all state board of nursing requirements.
• Certifications: Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the American Heart Association or successful completion of course within 30 days of hire.
• Other unit specific certifications as required.
• Other: Physical requirements/demands: Position requires individuals to push, pull, and/or lift 50 pounds on a regular basis. Position requires prolonged standing and walking each shift. Position requires the ability to grip, reach, bend, kneel, twist, and squat to perform duties.

Overview: Mercy Hospital Southeast OR includes general surgery, 2 DaVinci Xis, urology, plastics, gyn, orthopedic, neurosurgery and cardiothoracic surgery. Periop 101 through AORN is offered for new registered nurses. Our staff provides a comforting environment for patients that are undergoing a surgical procedure. We work alongside preop staff, anesthesia providers, surgeons and recovery staff to safely provide care to patients needing an operation. As nurses, we train on the equipment being used, proper positioning and prepping of the patient, and documentation of the patient record. There is opportunity to cross-train and/or advance to scrub or First Assist in the cases as well.

Our Mercy health system was founded by the Sisters of Mercy in 1986. But our heritage goes back more than 195 years. It began with an Irish woman named Catherine McAuley, who was determined to help women and children in Dublin experiencing poverty. Though Catherine had a modest upbringing, she received an unexpected inheritance that allowed her to fulfill that dream. In 1827, she opened the first House of Mercy in Dublin, intending to teach skills to women and educate children. Many volunteers came to the help. A few years later, Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, one of the first religious orders whose Sisters were free to walk among the poor and visit them in their homes. In 1843, the Sisters of Mercy came to the United States. In 1856, they traveled to St. Louis. In the years to come, they would establish hospitals throughout the Midwest. Many of these would join together in 1986 as Mercy.
