Job summary

Omatic is seeking a test thinker who can scale our automation as we grow. The role focuses on expanding test automation across UI, API, and data verification, with emphasis on integration and end-to-end coverage.

You will collaborate with developers and infrastructure engineers in Mount Pleasant, SC, contribute to CI pipelines, and explore AI-assisted testing approaches, data strategies, and performance testing.

Qualifications

• Experience building and maintaining test automation in a modern web framework (Playwright strongly preferred) with TypeScript/JavaScript proficiency.
• Experience testing RESTful APIs directly (not only through a UI).
• Experience keeping automation stable in CI (flake diagnosis, environment issues).
• Ability to apply concepts of risk, cost/value trade-offs, and prioritization to what gets automated.

Responsibilities

• Extend and maintain the Playwright/TypeScript automation framework (UI and API tiers) in CI.
• Design and implement API-tier test coverage against .NET REST services.
• Scope and build an automated test harness for integration connectors, incl. testing external CRM APIs.
• Facilitate discussions with development and infra on testing scope and contracts (Pact pilot).
• Use AI-assisted quality workflows to improve triage and test scoping, with clear outputs.
• Implement a test data strategy for repeatable tests.
• Evaluate and help architect performance testing solutions.

Job description

The focus of this role is improving our cost-of-mistake curve by scaling our testing via automation. We are looking for someone who is resourceful to solve technical challenges such as scaling the test automation suite, test data management strategies, continuous integration as well as performance testing.

You are a test thinker first, software engineer second.

Omatic's product moves nonprofit data between systems, so the interesting bugs live in the data (formats, edge cases, transformation rules), not just the UI. Experience with API testing, data verification, integration testing, working with mocks and AI is preferred.

What you will be doing:

• Effectively help drive an engineering approach to test automation at the level of integration and end-to-end.
• Extend and maintain the Playwright/TypeScript automation framework (UI and API tiers), keeping it maintainable, extensible, and stable in CI.
• Design and implement API-tier test coverage against Omatic's .NET REST services, including the data-plane services (Transform, Match, Route, Validate) and the configuration/runtime APIs.
• Scope and build an automated test harness for Omatic's integration connectors, including strategies for testing against external CRM APIs (mocked, twinned, or sandboxed).
• Facilitate discussions with development teams on the appropriate abstraction level to test at (unit, integration, system); collaborate on component and contract tests (Pact pilot).
• Use and improve AI-assisted quality workflows (automated triage, change-driven test scoping) as force multipliers, with clear understanding of its outputs.
• Implement a test data strategy that allows repeatable and relevant tests.
• Evaluate and help architect performance testing solutions.

What you will bring:

• Demonstrated experience building and maintaining test automation in a modern web framework (Playwright strongly preferred) with TypeScript/JavaScript proficiency.
• Demonstrated experience testing RESTful APIs directly (not only through a UI).
• Demonstrated experience keeping automation stable in CI (flake diagnosis, synchronization, environment issues)
• Ability to apply concepts of risk, cost/value trade-offs, and prioritization to what gets automated (and what doesn't).
• High self-initiative and self-motivation; sustained track record of peer-reviewed contributions.
• Ideal: C#/.NET familiarity (our services under test).
• Ideal: contract testing experience (Pact or similar).
• Ideal: experience with mocking/service-virtualization strategies for third-party APIs.
• Ideal: thoughtful use of AI tooling in testing workflows.
