Job summary

Amazon in Seattle is seeking a Software Development Engineer II to take full end-to-end ownership of Sable feature delivery and operational improvements. You will design, implement, and roll out changes to a tier-1 system, advancing the platform while keeping production traffic intact.

This role focuses on hard distributed-systems challenges, operational reliability, and mentoring junior engineers within a highly critical data plane team at Amazon.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of professional software development experience.
• 2+ years of design or architecture experience for large-scale systems.
• 1+ years of software development engineer experience.
• 1+ years of designing distributed software using C#, C++, Java, or Perl.
• 1+ years of Object Oriented Design.
• Bachelor's degree or foreign equivalent in CS/Engineering/Math.
• Experience programming in at least one programming language.

Responsibilities

• Own end-to-end design, implementation, and rollout of Sable features.
• Work on deep storage problems such as anti-entropy, leader election, and data durability.
• Take ownership of operational improvements with safe rollout.
• Carry on-call responsibilities for tier-1 services during incidents.
• Perform Root Cause Analysis and write operational runbooks.
• Advocate best practices to customers to prevent recurrence.
• Identify opportunities to improve operational excellence across the platform.
• Mentor junior engineers and interns to raise engineering quality.
