SDC Counselor-Camp G.R.A.C.E.-Kraft Family YMCA

Under the supervision of the Director and Site Coordinator, the Youth Counselor is responsible for leading, developing, and building relationships with youth participants in the Summer Day Camp program.

The role involves managing these functions in accordance with the mission, goals, and policies established by the YMCA's administrative staff, governing committees, and Board of Directors.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Supervise and build relationships with elementary and middle school campers.
  • Implement culturally relevant, developmentally appropriate program activities aligned with YMCA values.
  • Create a fun, safe, friendly, and challenging atmosphere.
  • Mentor and model responsible behavior during program activities.
  • Follow YMCA policies and procedures related to medical, disciplinary, child abuse prevention, and emergency situations.
  • Collaborate with the YMCA Youth Director to plan and execute developmentally appropriate and engaging special activities for campers.
  • Model relationship-building skills in all interactions.
  • Develop and maintain collaborative relationships with community organizations and ensure clear communication within your area of responsibility.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 16 years old.
  • Previous experience with children is preferred but not required.
  • Experience in outdoor activities, planning, organizing, crafts, music, skits, sports, or recreational games is preferred.
  • Ability to relate effectively to diverse social and economic groups.
  • Multilingual skills are a plus but not required.
