Job summary

MidAmerican Energy Company in Des Moines, IA, is seeking a Scrum Master/Sr Scrum Master to facilitate Scrum practices on IT projects, remove impediments, and foster collaboration to deliver high-quality solutions.

The role leads daily stand-ups, planning, reviews, and retrospectives; supports Product Owner; tracks velocity and burndown metrics; and coordinates across teams within SAFe environments. Ideal candidates hold a related bachelor's degree and multiple years of Scrum Master experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related field (typically four years of related experience if no degree).
• Five years of relevant experience required for Scrum Master role, including at least 3 years as Scrum Master in IT.
• Eight years of relevant experience for Sr Scrum Master role, including at least 3 years as Scrum Master in IT.
• CSM or PSM certification preferred.
• Experience in IT system operation/environment and/or development.
• Experience with Azure DevOps (ADO) preferred.
• Understanding of agile methods including SAFe.
• Strong coordination across teams and effective communication.

Responsibilities

Description:

The Scrum Master candidate will be responsible for facilitating and ensuring the effective implementation of Scrum practices within our IT projects. This role involves guiding the team through the Scrum framework, removing impediments, and fostering a collaborative environment to enhance productivity and deliver high-quality solutions.

Responsibilities:

• Organize and lead daily stand-ups, sprint planning, sprint reviews, and retrospectives to ensure the team adheres to Scrum principles.
• Assist the Product Owner in managing the product backlog, ensuring it is well-defined, prioritized, and ready for the next sprint.
• Identify and eliminate obstacles that hinder the team's progress, ensuring a smooth workflow and timely delivery of project goals.
• Advocate for Agile methodologies and foster a culture of continuous improvement within the team and the organization.
• Track and report on team performance metrics, such as velocity and burndown charts, to provide transparency and insights into the team's progress.
• Provide guidance and support to team members, helping them understand and implement Scrum practice effectively.
• Communicate with stakeholders to ensure alignment of project goals, timelines, and deliverables.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in information systems, computer science or related business or technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically, four years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess a bachelor's degree.)
• A minimum of five years of relevant experience is required, including at least 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master in an IT environment for the Scrum Master position.
• A minimum of eight years of relevant experience is required, including at least 3 years of experience as a Scrum Master in an IT environment for the Sr Scrum Master position.
• Certified ScrumMaster (CSM) or Professional Scrum Master (PSM) certification is preferred.
• Experience in information technology system operation/environment and/or development.
• Experience working in Azure Dev Ops (ADO) environment is preferred
• Understanding of agile methods, processes, and key concepts including Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe).
• Understanding of system development lifecycle within an enterprise.
• Ability to coordinate across teams to accomplish tasks.
• Effective project management skills and ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently.
• Knowledge of information technology terms, equipment, systems, functions, and major vendors.
• Effective oral and written communication skills.
• Effective analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills and customer relationship skills.
• General understanding of IT operating and capital investment budgets.
• Understanding of company's existing IT environment and of applicable company policies, practices, and procedures.
