Job summary

Delta Dental of California is seeking a Scrum Master to lead Agile teams and facilitate Scrum ceremonies. The role focuses on applying Agile values, practices, and principles, while driving risk and dependency management and fostering continuous improvement.

The candidate will support Product Owners, track team performance, and coordinate with other teams to ensure timely, high-quality delivery. Strong communication and facilitation skills are essential.

Job description

The Scrum Master will be responsible for acting as a servant leader to Agile team(s), and a facilitator for the development team and Product Owner. They will lead the team and organization to diligently apply Agile/Scrum practices, values, roles and theory. They will drive risks, issues, and dependencies to resolution and own communications for the team. They will be responsible for monitoring the Scrum processes and Scrum meetings while increasing team efficiency and advocating for changes that will ensure quality and timeliness.

• Applies Agile principles, values, practices, and mindsets
• Supports Product Owners with backlog maintenance, backlog prioritization, and user story refinement process to deliver highest business value
• Ensures the Scrum team is practicing the core Agile principles of collaboration, prioritization, and team accountability to achieve Sprint goals and lead the team towards Agile maturity
• Facilitates Sprint planning, daily Scrum, dependency reviews, demos to stakeholders, and retrospectives
• Uses Scrum of Scrums (SOS) forum and coordinates with other teams to manage cross-team dependencies
• Facilitates frequent retrospectives, sharing metrics to identify and implement improvements
• Identifies and takes ownership of resolving impediments, removing barriers, and enabling cooperation
• Drives risks, issues and dependencies to resolution
• Escalates impediments that cannot be resolved by the team
• Able to support Kanban teams when needed

• 2+ years of experience w/Bachelor's degree in Information Technology field or equivalent
• Delivery leadership experience in technology with minimum of 2 years of Agile delivery experience
• Strong knowledge of facilitation, situational awareness, conflict resolution
• Understand various Agile methodologies and frameworks; SAFe, Scrum, Kanban, XP
• Effective communication skills, ability to adapt style to suit different audiences
• Ability to teach simple Agile concepts to teams
• Ability to analyze data and draw insights on team performance
• Knowledge of basic technical terminology and processes/systems
• Practice Lean Agile leadership
• Servant leadership, stakeholder management and negotiation skills
• Strong problem solving and analytical skills
• Good understanding of software design and delivery
• Knowledge of Visio, Jira, Confluence, and Jira Align, Miro
• Certified Scrum Manager preferred
• SAFe Scrum Master Certification preferred

Base Pay Information

The national base pay range at the end is a good-faith estimate of what Delta Dental may pay for new hires. Actual pay may vary based on Delta Dental's assessment of the candidate's knowledge, skills, abilities (KSAs), related experience, education, certifications and ability to meet required minimum job qualifications. Other factors impacting pay include prevailing wages in the work location and internal equity.

Pay Grade 22. $92,500 - $200,400
