Job summary

Illinois Orthopedic Network in Chicago, IL is seeking a full-time Surgical Technologist to support our growing surgical team. You will serve as scrub person, assemble packs, and assist with procedures, with a competitive wage based on education and experience.

The role requires an Associate degree in Surgical Technology (or 2 years related experience), a valid state license, current BLS, and strong teamwork in a high-volume setting. We offer health, dental, vision, 401(k), paid holidays and PTO.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Surgical Technology from accredited school or two years of related experience.
• Valid state Surgical Technologist license.
• Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certificate required.
• Ability to interact comfortably with a high volume of patients, families, and staff in a stressful environment.

Responsibilities

• Serves as a scrub person for basic surgical procedures and participates in complex procedures.
• Assembles surgical packs, supplies and instruments for surgical cases.
• Ensures adequate supplies and instruments are available and counts instruments, needles and sponges.
• Assists with monitoring blood and fluids loss during cases.
• Adjusts priorities and helps resolve problems as appropriate.
• Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions used.
• Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment for procedures.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Reviews patient charts, verifies identity and surgery, and escorts patient to operating rooms.

Job Duties

• Serves as a scrub person for basic surgical procedures and participates in complex surgical procedures.
• Follows departments procedure for scrub persons by assembling surgical packs, supplies and instruments for surgical cases.
• Assures an adequate number of appropriate supplies and instrumentation are available in accordance with surgeon’s preference and counts all instruments, needles and sponges.
• Assists with monitoring and reporting blood and fluids loss during cases.
• Adjusts priorities and participates in resolving problems as appropriate.
• Measures and passes medications, hemostatic agents and irrigation solutions utilized during surgical procedures.
• Gathers, checks and opens supplies and equipment needed for the surgical procedure.
• Cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization.
• Review the patient’s chart, identify patient, verify surgery to be performed with consent forms, and bring the patient to the assigned operation rooms.
