Job summary

Scrap Management Industries in Saint Joseph, MO is seeking an equipment operator to support our team in moving, organizing, stacking, loading and unloading scrap metal. The role requires safe operation of diverse equipment and strict adherence to OSHA rules, with readiness to cross-train in other positions and assist teammates as needed.

The successful candidate will monitor and maintain heavy machinery, perform pre-shift checks, and work outdoors in a variable environment.

Qualifications

• Minimum 1 year of experience operating equipment (e.g., forklift or skid steer).
• Must follow OHSA and company safety rules and regulations.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, outdoor industrial environment.
• Able to understand and carry out written and oral instructions.
• Willing to cross-train in other positions and assist others as needed.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and maintain all production equipment (material handlers, loaders, excavator, tractors, rail car mover, balers, etc.).
• Follow company and OSHA safety procedures.
• Perform daily pre-shift inspections and report defects or needed repairs.
• Sort and categorize scrap metal commodities.
• Attend scheduled training and meetings and perform other duties as assigned.
