Job summary

External SA Recycling is seeking a front-line weighmaster/yard associate to weigh vehicles, inspect metal grades, and handle essential paperwork. The role requires strong communication with dispatch, drivers, and customers, plus adherence to safety and housekeeping standards.

The position emphasizes basic math, the ability to learn sorting techniques, and willingness to work in a fast-paced yard environment with PPE usage and safety compliance.

Qualifications

• Must pass a medical physical and drug test.
• Must pass a background check and credit check.
• High school diploma or GED preferred; foreign education acceptable.
• Bilingual English and Spanish language skills a plus.
• Ability to communicate with others effectively; understand direction and use basic math.
• Willingness to learn sorting metal, identifying colors/shapes/weights, maintaining equipment, and using PPE.

Responsibilities

• Weigh vehicles full and empty to record purchases.
• Inspect and determine metal grade for inventory tracking.
• Handle paperwork for business, deliveries, and government documentation.
• Communicate with dispatch and truck drivers to determine schedules and volumes.
• Communicate with customers when objectionable materials are brought in.
• Assist customers to satisfy needs and resolve problems.
• Work with yard staff to manage materials for efficient arrivals.
• Process and report end-of-day totals.
• Maintain clean and organized work areas; adhere to safety rules.
